The First Step of Learning
As I am teaching pre-primary children, they are the youngest learners, and their life’s journey starts with us. The knowledge we give them in the beginning is what they carry forward and adopt in their life ahead. Since they are very small, we have to take extra care of what they feel. We listen to their words, try to understand what they want to say, and notice everything they learn from us.
Learning Through Play
Pre-primary children learn more through play and activities rather than formal lessons. As teachers, we create fun activities, rhymes, and games so that learning becomes joyful for them. They may not remember long explanations, but they easily learn through songs, colours, stories, and actions. This playful method builds their basic skills and also keeps them excited about coming to school every day.
For these little kids, even simple things matter a lot. When we teach them how to say “thank you” or “sorry,” they remember it and start using it in daily life. When we clap for them, they feel happy and confident. At this stage, every small action by the teacher leaves a big impact on their growth.
Building Good Habits and Values
Apart from studies, teachers also help small children develop good habits like sharing, helping others, and keeping things neat. For example, when we teach them how to wash hands before eating, or how to keep their toys back after playing, it slowly becomes their routine. These simple habits form the base of discipline in their lives.
We also make them learn about kindness and respect. If one child falls down, we encourage others to help. If one child is sad, we guide others to comfort him or her. In this way, children learn empathy from the very beginning.
Emotional Bond Between Teacher and Student
The bond between teacher and pre-primary children is very special. They are too young to handle emotions on their own, so they often come to teachers for comfort. A smile, a hug, or a kind word makes them feel safe. Many times, children share their small problems with us, and when we listen patiently, they feel valued. Many of us still remember the teachers who motivated us in difficult times. This emotional support helps them become more confident and happy learners.
